What up iDevicers and fellow Mac users. I’ve been putting screenshots up showing off my desktop and everybody wants to know, “Dude, how do I do that?!” lol. Well relax I’m about to share with you my secret. There’s a powerful software application called GeekTool lets you display and theme various kinds of information or widgets on your desktop via 3 default plug-ins. GeekTool is a great application for customizing the look and feel of your desktop. We hope to help you understand how to get what you want from GeekTool and set you well on the way to transforming your desktop.
The 3 default plug-ins include:
• File plugin to monitor MacOS X activity with /var/log/system.log, or any file that you want to follow.
• Shell mode to launch custom scripts or commands like “df” to check space left on filesystems or “uptime” to monitor load on your machine.
• Finally, image mode helps you monitor bandwith usage, CPU load, memory availability on your server with tools like MRTG or RRD.
Check out this sick Tron theme below:
Now I want you to keep in mind that the GeekTool App is for technical people with good understanding of Unix and shell commands. This is not something for the average mac users, unless you are ready to spend some time studying and googling to try to get what you want.
You can download the GeekTool from the Mac App store and find tons of powerful scripts or as we call them Geeklets HERE at the Geeklet library.(shown below)
